The Benefits of Dance Lessons
Dance lessons are wonderful for people of all ages and skill level. Learning a new dance combination helps you use muscles you may not have activated in a long time. Often dance calls for good posture, so if you are stuck at a desk all day your neck and back will thank you for the relief. Dancing helps improve memory and has been linked to improved neuroplasticity in the brain. Dancing is a great time to shut off all social media and stress from the day to let go and have fun.
The History of the Samba
Popular in Latin America and Brazil, the samba style of dance dates back to the late 16th century. The samba can be danced alone or with a partner. Often performed to a 2/4 beat, this style of dance has fancy footwork, a lot of accentuation of the hips and is very sexy.
There are seven different versions of the samba, depending on the particular musical instrument used. Some of the versions call for dancing alone with 3 steps in a 2/4 rhythm while other variations are performed in a partnered set in competitive ballroom dance. At Arthur Murray Dance School in the Naperville and Oakbrook Terrace area of IL, we teach partner style samba dance classes. Grab a good friend and get ready to shake your hips.
Getting Ready For Your First Samba Class
For your first class, dress comfortably so that you can move. As you get more experience dancing the samba you may want to upgrade to a shorter skirt and character shoes with a bit of a heel. Also, be sure to bring water, because dance is a workout.
