At Arthur Murray, we take the confusion out of learning to dance. Depending on your goals and interest, you can proceed through the experience levels at the pace you prefer, honing skills and learning new ones to achieve any proficiency level you desire.
You may want to be a good social dancer, like most of our students. Our medalist programs will take you there. If competitive dancing is your aim, then we can train you in the latest techniques, steps, and styles as well. In fact, we have trained some of the top competitive couples in the world today.
Our Introductory Program is designed as a prelude to the popular social dances and the teaching methods of the Arthur Murray Dance Centers. It’s designed to fulfill your immediate dance needs while allowing your instructor an opportunity to evaluate your dancing with respect to your future learning.
Basic Foundation Program
Designed to develop from 4-6 dances, this program focuses on the most important dances that are used at a basic level, with enough variety to keep your learning experience interesting. Emphasis is placed on three important elements of dancing: foot position, rhythm and timing, and leading or following.
Associate Bronze Program
This program will help you acquire free movement around the floor while expanding variety, technique, and footwork. Associate Bronze dancers will begin to develop the portrayal of dance characteristics in the form of styling. This program is very popular with those wanting to get on the dance floor quickly.
Full Bronze Program
This is the complete social standard to ballroom dance program. It’s designed to develop timing and technique in all social dances selected by the student. The styling will make you look and feel comfortable on the dance floor. It will also strengthen your lead and follow regardless of your partner, the music being played, or the type of dance floor. Bronze dancers have all the confidence anyone would need on the floor because they have reached the “fun point” in dancing. Dancing techniques at this level will be yours to keep because you’ll never forget the elements of each dance.
The standard in this program consists of flashy moves with a high degree of styling. More elaborate movements ensure that the Silver dancer will stand out on any dance floor. Continuity of movements will make a couple glide across the dance floor with many natural directional changes. Styling, technique, balance, and control will take on an entirely new meaning. This is the beginning of the professional standard used on the ballroom floor.
The highest standard for amateur dancers, this program is strictly for the hobby dancer interested in performances, exhibitions, or competitions. The intricate patterns are only to be used when both partners are proficient. Choreography, styling, technique, and showmanship are necessities in this standard. This material is not used on a crowded floor. There is a lot of work involved in this program, but you will truly be regarded as an outstanding dancer. You’ll be able to excel in any dance after you finish it.
